Dear MD Derm family,

This month we will talk about tick bites and Lyme disease. Ticks are very common in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia areas, and they can carry a bacteria that causes Lyme disease. Lyme disease can be treated with proper antibiotics, but needs to be treated early on to avoid harmful long-term effects. The classic “target rash” does not happen in 100% of infected persons, so if you have been bit by a tick, come see us so we can quickly and properly evaluate you! Wearing long pants and high socks, as well as tick repellant sprays can help keep them away when you are enjoying the great outdoors! And of course, when you return in doors, do a quick tick check of you, your loved ones, and your pets!

See you soon!
